Forum Nokia Expands Pro Offering With Focused Developer Support 'Zones'
June 27, 2005
Programs to aid developers specializing in Enterprise and Networks based applications
San Francisco, CA - Nokia (NYSE: NOK), the global leader in mobility, today announced the creation of a new technical, business development and marketing support program for software developers that want to work more closely with Enterprise Solutions, the arm of Nokia dedicated to helping businesses and institutions worldwide improve their performance through extended mobility. Nokia also is creating a specialized support program in response to growing opportunities for independent developers to build network specific applications and services based on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).
The new Forum Nokia PRO Enterprise Zone and Forum Nokia PRO Networks Zone will offer qualified companies exclusive access to Nokia technical support and advanced business development opportunities. The programs are developed and administered by Forum Nokia, Nokia's global developer support program as part of its Forum Nokia PRO membership offering. Launched in 2004, Forum Nokia PRO has enlisted more than 400 advanced developer companies in its first year.
"By creating specialized zones for Forum Nokia PRO members, our aim is to keep our global developer community at the cutting edge of mobile application development trends," said Lee Epting, vice president in charge of Forum Nokia. "Working closely with other business arms of Nokia, such as Nokia Networks and Nokia Enterprise Solutions, we can enrich the technical and business environment for our qualified developers and create a faster path to market for their solutions."
PRO Enterprise Zone will enable leading enterprise software developers and system integrators to engage Nokia Enterprise Solutions and its customers with offerings that complement Nokia's enterprise product line. Providing a wide-ranging set of services to help member companies develop and promote their solutions in conjunction with Nokia, PRO Enterprise Zone will promote enterprise application and solution development for Nokia Series 80 and Series 60 based business range devices.
More than half of the membership in Forum Nokia PRO is engaged in developing enterprise solutions, including Boise, Idaho-based Extended Systems and San Jose, California-based Intellisync Corporation.
"Extended Systems has derived numerous benefits from Forum Nokia PRO and is very interested in extending its relationship further by joining Enterprise Zone," said Nigel Doust, vice president of worldwide mobility at Extended Systems, which provides a mobile solutions suite that enables companies to mobilize critical enterprise applications. "We believe that establishing a closer working relationship with the Enterprise Solutions business unit and tapping into the programs' promotional, demand creation, and market development elements will help drive adoption of OneBridge mobile solutions suite and Nokia devices in the enterprise market."
To qualify for PRO Enterprise Zone, companies must have experience in developing enterprise grade business solutions and demonstrated capabilities in the enterprise market in addition to demonstrated Nokia competencies. In addition to the full range of services offered by Forum Nokia PRO, PRO Enterprise Zone members can benefit from regional Nokia Enterprise Solutions business development and marketing cooperation, enhanced opportunities for product loaning and exclusive previews of Nokia Enterprise Solutions roadmaps.
"As an early member of Forum Nokia PRO, Intellisync benefited greatly from having a close working relationship with Nokia." said Clyde Foster, COO of Intellisync, a provider of software and solutions for synchronization, secure wireless email, device control and mobility management. "We are very interested in increasing our collaboration with Nokia through their Enterprise Zone program. Having a stronger working relationship with Nokia's Enterprise Solutions business group will help us optimize our solution for Nokia's enterprise devices, jointly address the needs of the enterprise market, and further expand our application into large enterprise accounts."
The Forum Nokia PRO Networks Zone will offer in-depth resources for developers who want to exploit the opportunities for richer applications based on IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network architecture and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). PRO Networks Zone will provide access to new APIs and interfaces used to develop new richer applications. SIP and IMS enable peer-to-peer and application IP connectivity for mobile and fixed devices providing new opportunities to generate revenue through new service offerings, such as interactive gaming, content sharing and rich messaging.
PRO Networks Zone members will be able to take advantage of Nokia's IP Multimedia Subsystem, a critical component in the drive toward fixed-mobile network convergence. "IMS is about introducing new multimedia services cost effectively," said Markku Verkama, GM, IMS Product Line, NET Core Networks, Nokia. "Forum Nokia PRO Network Zone allows us to speed up deployment of new services by supporting developers in creating exciting IMS based applications. This creates value to our service provider customers, who benefit from the richness of Nokia's IMS and end-to-end solutions."
