Nokia awarded GSM/EDGE network expansion deal in Colombia with Comcel, an América Móvil subsidiary
October 13, 2004

Nokia continues as sole supplier of GSM/EDGE switching and radio network infrastructure to Comcel.

Nokia has won a GSM expansion deal with Comcel, América Móvil's affiliate in Colombia, continuing as Comcel's sole supplier of GSM/EDGE core and radio network equipment.  The deliveries of the expansion are currently underway and will reach a value of 90 million USD by the end of 2004.

Under the expansion agreement, Nokia will provide GSM/EDGE and GPRS network equipment, allowing Comcel to increase network capacity and expand coverage to smaller cities where GSM service has not yet been available, in order to keep pace with the demand for mobile services in Colombia.  As part of the network expansion, Nokia will provide additional Nokia NetAct (TM) operations support system (OSS) platforms.

Comcel is the largest mobile operator in Colombia, leading one of the most dynamic markets in Latin America, a region that will play an important role in the expected growth of the mobile industry to two billion subscribers in 2007.

"We are very pleased to be strengthening our cooperation with Comcel," said Vesa Siltanen, Account Director, Nokia Colombia S.A.  "This agreement is giving Comcel leading-edge technology and services, which together with higher network capacity will be instrumental in continuing Comcel's leadership in the Colombian market."

América Móvil is the leading provider of wireless services in Latin America.  It has more than 50 million wireless subscribers in the Americas.

Nokia is the world leader in mobile communications, driving the growth and sustainability of the broader mobility industry. Nokia is dedicated to enhancing people's lives and productivity by providing easy-to-use and innovative products like mobile phones, and solutions for imaging, games, media, mobile network operators and businesses.
