Nokia 610 car kit phone simplifies automotive communications
October 28, 2003
At the annual Nokia Mobile Internet Conference in Nice, France, and "Destination Nokia 100% Pure Mobility" event held in Brisbane, Australia, Nokia introduced an innovative car kit phone that simplifies in-car communication. Using wireless Bluetooth technology, the Nokia 610 car kit phone makes it possible to conveniently and seamlessly switch from a compatible mobile phone to the in-car environment - without the need to exchange SIM cards. Additional benefits of the GSM 900/1800 Nokia 610 car kit phone include an external GSM antenna connection, excellent hands-free audio quality, driver-optimized operability with separate display and input device. Shipping of the Nokia 610 car kit phone is scheduled to begin in Europe, Africa and selected Asia Pacific markets in the first quarter of 2004.
The Nokia 610 is the first Nokia car kit phone to offer a new technology called Bluetooth SIM Access Profile (SAP). With the Bluetooth SAP profile, the car kit phone is able to access the SIM card in the user's compatible mobile phone and automatically log into the GSM network. As soon as the user exits the car or presses a specific key on the mobile phone, the Nokia 610 car kit phone switches off and automatically re-logs the mobile phone into the network.
"The new Nokia 610 car kit phone makes car communication simpler and more convenient," says Uwe Pertz, Head of Product Marketing, Nokia Smart Traffic Products, Nokia Mobile Phones. "By eliminating the need for a separate SIM card and by enabling seamless access to a user's contact information, the Nokia 610 car kit phone combines benefits of a fixed car phone with the freedom of a mobile phone."
Employing a comfortable, intuitive operating concept, users can access up to 500 phonebook entries with up to five numbers per contact, which can easily be downloaded to the Nokia 610 car kit phone via Bluetooth technology. Voice recognition enables voice dialling of up to twelve numbers, and three voice commands for menu functions.
If the car is used by two different users, the Nokia 610 car kit phone enables each of them to save and access his/her own phonebook entries, including voice tags and commands, and personal settings. Using the Navi(TM) wheel and four function keys, the Nokia 610 car kit phone's entire range of functions can be accessed conveniently. On the separate display, which can be flexibly positioned on the dashboard, text can be read at a glance. Incoming messages can be answered especially quickly with the Nokia 610 car kit phone. With just one touch of a button the user can call the sender back or send a reply in the form of a predefined short message.
Naturally, the Nokia 610 car kit phone also provides excellent voice quality in handsfree operation. For private calls, a single touch of a button on the input device during the call activates a compatible wireless headset using Bluetooth technology. The Nokia 610 car kit phone is compatible with the Nokia 6230, Nokia 6810 and Nokia 6820 mobile phones, which were also launched today.
