Singapore -- Nokia has begun deliveries of the cdma2000 1X Nokia 2280 phone to Reliance Infocomm, a key service provider and industry leader in India. Based on a Nokia-designed cdma2000 1X chipset, the Nokia 2280 phone combines ease of use with style and personalisation options and is set to cater to first time users who desire a relevant feature set optimised for voice and text messaging.
"Nokia views India as one of the fastest growing markets in Asia Pacific and one of the potential key markets for CDMA. We are pleased to be working closely with Reliance Infocomm, a key service provider in India to offer affordable and localised CDMA products like the Nokia 2280 to Indian consumers. This development marks an exciting phase for Nokia towards increasing our CDMA footprint in India, as well as for other CDMA markets in the region. We see a great potential for the continued growth of mobile telephony in India where mobile penetration is relatively low. As the leading brand in mobile communications in India, Nokia will continue to deliver products which cater to the needs and preferences of Indian consumers," said Robert Andersson, Senior Vice President, Nokia Mobile Phones Asia Pacific.
"The features of the Nokia 2280 were designed to make the mobile voice experience easy and enjoyable. It offers Reliance Infocomm subscribers a phone with a relevant feature set that is affordable, reliable and easy to use for their mobile communications. With Nokia's established customer care network in India, we are able to cater to all consumer enquiries and provide quality customer service and support," said Sanjeev Sharma, Managing Director, Nokia Mobile Phones India.
With its soft-edge stylish design, white LED backlight, attractive interchangeable Xpress-onä colour covers, a calendar, an alarm clock and downloadable ringtones, the Nokia 2280 offers a wide variety lifestyle and personalisation options. Other key features include a built-in phonebook which supports up to 250 entries, high speed data support and full text messaging capability including predictive text input.
"We are pleased to work with Nokia, a global mobile communications leader that has been an established brand name with a strong product portfolio and a track record of world-class service. They have long been associated with innovative and intuitive design, quality and reliability. The addition of Nokia 2280 into the portfolio of phones offered by Reliance IndiaMobile service is a significant development, enabling us to bring substantial value and choice to our customers", said Mr. Amit Khanna, official spokesperson, Reliance Infocomm Ltd.
