Nokia Chosen to Secure Network at Networld & Interop’s 2002 Paris Exhibition
November 06, 2002

Nokia in concert with its best-of-breed security partners Check Point, F5 Networks and Internet Security Systems (ISS) team together in network security tour-de-force

November 6, 2002: Nokia (NYSE: NOK), the world leader in network security infrastructure, is supplying Nokia IP network security appliances for the Networld & Interop 2002 Paris exhibition’s network. The event, Europe’s premier networking, interoperability and Internet exhibition, will run from November 6-8. The Nokia appliances integrate firewall and VPN (Virtual Private Network) software from Check Point Software Technologies (NASDAQ: CHKP) and RealSecure ® network intrusion protection software from Internet Security Systems (ISS).  The Nokia solution includes Nokia BIG-IP iTM (Internet Traffic Management) application switches and server appliances sourced through an OEM agreement and strategic investment in F5 Networks.  All will be managed by Nokia Horizon Manager security policy management software.

Nokia’s network security architecture will be installed and operate from InteropNet’s Network Operation Center (NOC). The complete solution encompasses:

- Two Nokia IP740 network security appliances in a high-availability redundant configuration with Gigabit Ethernet connection, integrating the market-leading VPN-1®/FireWall-1® from Nokia’s global partner, Check Point Software Technologies.

-  Seven Nokia IP380 intrusion protection appliances and Internet flow analysis network appliances offering traffic analysis on the internal and external networks of the firewalls.  Each network appliance is capable of detecting attacks on a fully utilised Fast Ethernet segment.

- Four Nokia BIG-IP iTM (Internet Traffic Management) Application switches and server appliances with Gigabit and fast Ethernet connections. This includes two Nokia BIG-IP 5000 application switches and two Nokia BIG-IP HA+ 540 server appliances to load balance the traffic for intrusion protection analysis across the Nokia IP380 network appliances for seamless and scalable network traffic analysis.

In addition, Nokia Horizon Manager security appliance management software will be used for simultaneous control of all Nokia IP network security appliances.  Functionality includes planning of installation functions and execution of repeated activities such as back-up, recovery and updates.  The Nokia “Do No Harm Intelligence” functionality also ensures network security appliance configuration integrity of software versions installed and permits restoration and recovery.

The high end Nokia IP740 network appliance is capable of supporting firewall throughput of more than 1.5 Gigabits/second servicing data processing centres of major companies and strategic network environments of Internet service providers.  The unique bus architecture of the Nokia IP740 enables significant increases to internal bandwidth providing support for nearly 2Gb/second firewall throughput.  Beyond its processing capacities, the IP740 is designed for maximum network availability with fast replacement components and redundant power supply as an option.  It is equipped as standard with four integral Ethernet 10/100 ports, two PCMCIA Type II slots for supporting modems and four CPCI slots for WAN interface cards or encryption acceleration cards.  It also has an internal slot for a VPN accelerator card.

The recently released Nokia IP 380 network appliance is designed to meet the requirements of medium-sized companies and offers greatly enhanced performance both for firewall and VPN functionality and intrusion protection.  It has as standard four Ethernet ports, supporting all routing protocols, and two locations for interface cards as an option, either 2 Ethernet ports or WAN series.  In addition, the Nokia IP380 is supported by Nokia Horizon Manager 1.2, the network security management tool developed by Nokia which makes it possible to rapidly deploy at a distance new software versions and maintenance and recovery operations, whilst keeping total visibility over the security policy for the entire network.

RealSecure for Nokia is designed and constructed specifically for intrusion protection and detection.  It is simple to manage and configure whilst integrating the most recent functionalities with regard to intrusion protection.  Compatible with the Check Point OPSEC standard, it has an excellent cost/performance ratio.

Ernie Jones, VP Sales EMEA, Nokia Internet Communications adds, “Connecting people securely is key to us. This installation is a reflection on the excellent global partnerships with Check Point, F5 Networks and Internet Security Systems and demonstrates the coherence of the Nokia solution. It is our on-going drive to meet the network security requirements of all our customers to retain customer satisfaction whilst addressing their growth and productivity challenges using security as an enabler.“
