October 30, 2002

Nokia has won a 400 million euro deal as turnkey supplier of CHT's 3G network in Taiwan. Deliveries begin during fourth quarter 2002 with Nokia providing both 3G core and radio-access network equipment for the smooth roll-out and introduction of CHT's nationwide WCDMA network.

The Nokia WCDMA 3G solution will enable CHT's 7.3 million customers to enjoy advanced multimedia mobile services, such as multimedia messaging, mobile entertainment, mobile location services, corporate services, and m-commerce.

Under the agreement, Nokia will supply an extensive range of operator services to help CHT maximize their operating efficiency and add value to their business case. These services include network planning, site acquisition, project management, installation, commissioning, pre-launch optimization and multivendor network integration for fast ramp-up and seamless overlay of new technologies.

Furthermore, a wide range of care services, including a dedicated local team and expert online support around the clock, spare parts management, hardware repair, extensive operations support services, training and continuous network optimization will help CHT launch efficient 3G operations and realize the full potential of their investment.

"We feel sure that Nokia’s 3G solution will provide technologically superior service and will meet our needs for cost-efficient and effective roll-out to deliver 3G services to our customers in the highly competitive Taiwanese market,” said Mr Yue Chin-Yi, President of CHT Mobile Business Group.

"CHT has placed its trust in Nokia's end-to-end system capability in 3G. In both the delivery and care phases, Nokia has demonstrated their proven ability and dedication to support us with fast network ramp-up and overall system maintenance and optimization,” he added.

"3G is a cornerstone of advanced mobile services and we are delighted to be supplying this network to CHT as it migrates to future generation services and applications," explains James Lin, Vice President and General Manager, Business Development, Nokia Networks Asia Pacific.

"This agreement marks a milestone in our long and excellent cooperation with CHT. The Nokia 3G solution will help CHT to be a front runner in the race to true multimedia services in its' very competitive home market," he added.
