Nokia unveils stylish new digital terminal platform for Asian market
June 06, 2000
Nokia Multimedia Terminals unveils a new highly specified digital terminal platform based on DVB technology, dedicated to the satellite and cable marketplace in Asia. Naturally the new product will benefit from Nokia's unbeatable Digital TV expertise gained throughout Europe and Asia where the company has sold more than 3 million digital multimedia terminals. It will be available for all Asian countries.
"Broadcasters across Asia are quickly moving towards digital broadcasting," comments Kimmo Paaso, General Manager, Sales Asia Pacific of Nokia Multimedia Terminals. " Our products are designed especially for Asian market requirements, with local language support and multi-standard flexibility. Nokia is well positioned to take the industry lead."
Central to the new product platform will be a flexible modular design allowing Nokia to meet the needs of local operators (satellite and cable). The platform allows several configuration possibilities including telephone modems. It will feature both English and Chinese User Interfaces that guarantee a user friendly plug and play installation. Remote control functions are also dual language (English and Chinese). This is a premium product in every detail.
The Nokia NavibarsTM User Interface gives operators new possibilities to make their program assortment more accessible. The Nokia NavibarsTM is a complete system for building customer relations while providing the viewer with a navigator for this terminal to help manage the vast new media world.
Other key features include: integrated processor running at 60MHz, OpenTV middleware (version EN2) to support latest applications; Smart card reader which also accepts pre-paid cards; high-quality and stable signal; Nagravision Conditional Access and QAM as cable or QPSK as satellite front-end.
The new multimedia terminal combines high specification with an eye-catching new design. Its matt titanium cover and glossy black symmetric front panel creates a stylish contrast in line with the next design trend - subtle colours and clean lines combined with timeless simplicity. The titanium finish also enhances the elegant remote control, specially designed for both right- and left-handed users.
Given the flexibility of the new product platform, Nokia technology will give operators the freedom to offer a wide range of optional services such as premium pay services/PPV readiness, video and audio selection services and DVB subtitling including graphics and animations.
