Nokia And Marconi to form consortium, Securcomm, for Tetra Networks in Italy

Today Marconi and Nokia, through their Italian subsidiaries, have announced the creation of a new consortium, Securcomm, to deliver a TETRA (Terrestrial Trunking RAdio) digital professional network for the Italian police forces.
The consortium, notice of which has been given to the Italian monopolies authority, aims at providing TETRA services for the Italian public security sector. This agreement represents significant cooperation for TETRA technology between two players in the telecommunications field; Securcomm's aim is to provide the highest level of advanced technologies with high value added services specifically designed for the Italian public security sector.
TETRA technology will provide the Italian police with efficient, secure and reliable communications tools that can both improve applications and enhance co-ordination in order to support the public security services in difficult operations, such as social and environmental emergency situations.
"We are very pleased to have made this agreement which enables us to offer the Italian police over thirty years of experience in the professional mobile radio networks and our competence in TETRA as well as co-operating closely with a well known global technology partner such as Nokia", said Sandro Gualano, President, Marconi Communications SpA.
