Nokia launches its Nokia Totem Vantage Network Planning tool – contributing to fast deployment of 3G networks now
June 07, 2000

Nokia today announced its Nokia Totem Vantage network planning tool, which is an advanced, cost-effective and easy-to-use network planning tool, contributing to the fast deployment of 3G networks.

Nokia's foresight in 3G network planning evolution has made it possible to develop a tool in-house specifically for WCDMA network planning, that is ready for deliveries now. This underlines Nokia's readiness to deliver and be first in the market with a complete 3GPP standards compliant WCDMA commercial solution.

Nokia Totem Vantage, which is part of Nokia WCDMA system solution, makes it possible to efficiently plan and optimise high-quality 3G networks. Nokia Totem Suite Network Planning Systems have an evolutionary approach to planning and optimising networks based on data and voice service requirements.

As Christian Kurtén, Vice President, Professional Services, Nokia Networks explains: "Our complete planning services portfolio, including radio network, core network and transmission planning, is instrumental to meet the fast implementation schedules of 3G networks. Combined with our leading-edge planning tools and our strong implementation capability already proven with GSM and GPRS networks, it makes Nokia a preferred partner for operators choosing their solutions for evolving networks.”

Earlier this week Nokia announced the achievement of a first major milestone of a project with SK Telecom, the world's largest CDMA operator, defining extensive planning guidelines for 3rd Generation IMT-2000 networks.

Nokia provides 3G systems for both WCDMA and EDGE technologies. These include Base Station Subsystems, Packet and Circuit Switching Systems, end-user service delivery platforms, application functionalities, systems integration services, Service and Network Management Solutions including Service Provisioning and Billing, and 3G Terminals. In addition to infrastructure and software, Nokia Professional Services provides comprehensive service solutions for planning, deploying, managing and enhancing 3G systems.

For applications from voice to mobile multimedia, Nokia Professional Services
helps operators optimise their resource allocation and unlock their business potential. Nokia Professional Services covers the entire process of building and running a network; developing, managing and optimising network operations; integrating network systems and solutions; and creating and implementing end-user applications.

Nokia is paving the way to the mobile information society with its innovative products and solutions. Nokia is the leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile, broadband and IP networks, related services as well as multimedia terminals. In 1999, net sales totalled EUR 19.8 billion (USD 19.9 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on the New York (NOK), Helsinki, Stockholm, London, Frankfurt and Paris stock exchanges and employs more than 56,000 people.
