Vienna's Luxury Hotel, Das Triest, Deploys Nokia's Wireless LAN to Satisfy Business Travelers
May 30, 2000
(Vienna, Bad Homburg, May 30, 2000) – Das Triest hotel in Vienna is Austria's first hotel to install Nokia's wireless LAN (Local Area Network) solution in order to allow guests to surf the net on their own laptops up to 50 times faster than conventional dial-up lines.
"At Das Triest, 80 percent of our guests are business travelers. Over 95 percent of them carry a laptop and we want to keep these people connected", said Mr. Manfred Stallmajer, manager at Das Triest. "Nokia's wireless LAN is a perfect fit for us as it enables secure high-speed access that supports bandwidth-hungry Internet and business applications."
Nokia's wireless LAN solution consists of Nokia's wireless LAN access points, Nokia's wireless LAN cards, and sophisticated software and utilities in order to make installation, use, and management of the solution a seamless extension to a wired network. The products are compliant with the IEEE 802.11 industry standard for wireless LAN.
Das Triest has deployed several Nokia wireless LAN access points throughout the hotel building, in order to provide guests with easy and secure wireless access to networked resources in guest rooms, lobbies and conference areas. Guests can roam freely from one access point to another while staying on the same network.
Hotel guests will receive, on request, a Nokia Wireless LAN Card for their laptop during check-in. The hotel reception will provide the required installation assistance, in addition to the written instructions available. When guests check out, they can either purchase the card and keep it, or return it at the reception desk.
If any guests already own an 802.11 compliant wireless LAN card, they can use it within Nokia's wireless LAN coverage area due to common standards.
"At Nokia, we’re committed to delivering innovative technology to mobile users around the world and making the job of connecting people and information effortless and instantaneous. Das Triest hotel is just the first step in a series of roll-outs in Austria to provide people with reliable and secure high-speed access when and where they need it", said Rainer M. Richter, General Manager for Continental Europe, Nokia Internet Communications.
