First commercial deployments of Nokia InSite Base Stations around the world

Nokia has successfully deployed the first office optimised GSM Base Stations - Nokia InSite Base Station - to Finnish operator Sonera and Philippines operator Smart. These first commercial implementations follow successful trials.
In addition to Sonera and Smart, Nokia InSite Base Stations have been delivered to 15 operators around the world with commercial deployment expected to commence in the third quarter of this year.

We expect this will bolster our technology leadership and further improve our ability to serve our customers, particularly in terms of indoor coverage," said Ramon Isberto, Smart's public affairs director.

"Nokia InSite Base Station is a revolutionary radio access solution for indoor hot spots and a vital part of Nokia GSM Office and Nokia GSM Intranet Office solutions" said Harri Kulju, Director of Marketing, Radio Access Systems, Nokia Networks, "With early implementation by advanced operators like Sonera and Smart, Nokia has already started volume deliveries with this field tested product."

Nokia InSite Base Station is the smallest GSM base station in the world. It is a major step towards making the mobile phone the preferred phone also in the office. Nokia InSite Base Station will support GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and is helping pave the way to the Mobile Information Society indoors.

Nokia InSite Base Station helps operators to deliver coverage, capacity and quality cost efficiently in offices. It is easy to install and supports automated network planning functionality, allowing the installation to be carried out by one engineer on a single site visit.

Sonera (HEX: SRA, NASDAQ: SNRA) is an international forerunner in mobile communications and mobile-based services and applications. By combining its expertise in mobile communications, the Internet and service provision, Sonera aims to develop into a global communications operator and provider of transaction and content services. The company also provides advanced data communications solutions to businesses, and fixed network voice services in Finland and its nearby areas.
