Nokia to supply its Integrated IP Access solution to Free
February 15, 2000

Nokia today announced it will supply its DX 220 IP Access solution to Linx Telecom, the operator of Free, the leading free Internet Service Provider in France, to support its network expansion. The solution delivered by Nokia addresses the new IP mass market and will enable Free to offer differentiated IP services with an optimal scalability.

The Nokia DX 220 IP Access solution is an exciting technology development as it uniquely offers all the established telephony (PSTN) services together with Internet (IP) services on the same platform. By combining both services, it allows a network operator or ISP to offer established revenue-generating telephony services together with Internet access, without the need to install separate dial-up access servers. This enables the operators or ISP's to cost-effectively migrate its customer base from telephony to Internet services, providing seamless convergence between the circuit-switching and packet-switching worlds.

"Nokia DX 220 IP Access meets the challenge of marrying IP and PSTN within a cost effective and carrier-class platform," said Franck Brunel, Chief Executive of Linx Telecom. "This solution will help us to generate new sources of revenues whilst reducing costs"

"Nokia is proud to collaborate with Linx Telecom and Free who has become one of the main French ISPs within the last 6 months. This new partnership strengthens Nokia's position on the very competitive IP access market," said Peter Kuhne, Area Vice President, Nokia Networks. "It shows that Nokia's solutions are very well positioned and really address the new requirements of the Internet market."

Free provides free Internet access service to over 650 000 people in France and is therefore one of the leading Free ISPs in France and Europe. Free constantly enhances the quality and the performances of the offered services. Free is a trademark of PROXAD, created in early 1999. Linx Telecom founded in 1999 has been granted a PTO licence by the French regulatory body in late 1999.

Nokia is paving the way to the mobile information society with its innovative products and solutions. The company is the leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed and IP networks, related services as well as multimedia terminals. In 1999, Nokia's net sales totaled EUR 19.8 billion (USD 19.9 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on the New York (NOK), Helsinki, Stockholm, London, Frankfurt and Paris stock exchanges and employs more than 55 000 people.
