February 22, 2000

Nokia enables high-speed mobile Internet connectivity for CeBIT attendees, at the Hanover Airport and selected local hotels

Nokia today announced the delivery of its high-speed wireless networking solution, within selected areas of the CeBIT exhibition grounds, the Hanover Airport, and the Maritim Grand, Maritim City and Arabella Sheraton hotels. When travelling through enabled areas, users experience wirelessly Internet access at speeds over 50 times faster than normal dial-up connection.

"At Nokia, we're committed to delivering innovative technology to mobile users around the world and making the job of connecting people and information effortless and instantaneous. By giving attendees at CeBIT access to this groundbreaking technology, Nokia further demonstrates the vision of the Mobile Information Society", said Rainer M. Richter, General Manager Continental Europe, Nokia Internet Communications. "In Germany, this is just our first step to provide traveling professionals with reliable high-speed access to the Internet and their corporate data when and where they need it."

With this solution, 400 attendees at the CeBIT 2000 Trade Show, will be among the first in the world to experience the benefits of broadband wireless connectivity. Nokia will provide the service in co-operation with Lufthansa Systems, part of the Lufthansa IT Services Group. The companies may consider a partnership in a follow up project.

The CeBIT experience, targeted at today's mobile professional, demonstrates first hand the reality that work is no longer just a place. In addition to the Nokia Wireless LAN PC card, which is a standard credit card-size device, the solution includes the Nokia Wireless LAN Access Point, and sophisticated software and utilities to make installation, use and management a seamless extension to the existing wired network.
