Nokia's high-speed wireless Internet access introduced at Vancouver International Airport
February 29, 2000

Nokia teams with ISP provider Zoolink to provide wireless high-speed Internet access throughout the Vancouver International Airport

Nokia today announced the availability of its high-speed wireless networking solution throughout the Vancouver International Airport (YVR), providing business executives with untethered access to the Internet, corporate networks, and other resources while they're traveling. In conjunction with the YVR deployment, Nokia has also enabled selected areas within the Vancouver Fairmont Airport Hotel providing users with the same high-speed wireless Internet access service.

The Vancouver International Airport is the second Canadian airport to enable its business travelers to wirelessly access the Internet. Last December, Nokia offered its wireless networking solution to travelers in Ottawa's international airport. This ultimate mobility solution is now available to business executives requiring a cross-Canada connection while traveling through either International business gateway.

"Business passengers will have one less connection to make in Vancouver with this new wireless Internet access," said Larry Berg, president and CEO Vancouver International Airport Authority. "Vancouver International Airport is rated #1 among business passengers - and being able to offer Nokia's leading-edge technology will be a valuable addition to what we already offer our customers."

"By giving mobile professionals access to this groundbreaking technology, Nokia further demonstrates the vision of the Mobile Information Society", said Ahmed Al-Hayderi, vice president Business Development, Nokia Internet Communications.

For mobile business executives this solution means no longer having to find a phone equipped for computer access or other wired Internet access points within airports. Once travelers sign up for service and install the Nokia Wireless Local Area Networking (WLAN) card, and necessary mobility management software, they can access the Internet, their corporate server or other resources, from anywhere within the airport including departure lounges and arrival areas.

Nokia is providing the hardware, engineering and mobility management, and Zoolink Communications Ltd., a Vancouver-based (ISP), will supply the Internet access, as well as technical staff, operational management support and maintenance. Nokia WLAN cards will be available for purchase at $299.95 CDN or for rent on location from any one of the 10 kiosks throughout the airport.

This service, which is based on IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networking technology provides Internet access at broadband speeds of more than 50 times faster than normal dial-up connections.

Kiosks providing information about Nokia's wireless networking solution, including wireless LAN cards and Zoolink services, are available throughout YVR. Information on Nokia products and solutions may also be found on the company's Web site at www.nokia.com.
