Nokia supplies DX 200 switching system to modernize the PPO network in northwest Finland
December 30, 1999

- Nokia and the Finnish local operator, Pohjanmaan Puhelinosuuskunta (PPO), have signed an agreement for the modernization of PPO's switching network.

According to the contract, Nokia will deliver an expansion to the existing Ylivieska DX 200 switch and renew the access network at Raahe district on the north west coast of Finland. With this expansion, two local switches in Raahe will be replaced. The modernization covers approximately 13 000 subscribers. The deliveries will start in January 2000 and will be completed in 2001.

The modernization of the network will reduce network operation and maintenance costs considerably, as well as increase network performance in order to meet the needs of growing Internet traffic. In addition, concentrating the services into a single Nokia DX 200 switch will enable PPO to offer new analog and ISDN based services quickly and transparently to all its customers.

Nokia is paving the way to the mobile information society with its innovative products and solutions. Nokia is the leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed and IP networks including related services. It also supplies multimedia terminals and computer displays. In 1998, net sales totaled EUR 13.3 billion (USD 15.7 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on the New York (NOK), Helsinki, Stockholm, London, Frankfurt and Paris stock exchanges and employs more than 53 000 people.
