Nokia's new 19-inch FlatAGTM technology display is the discerning professionals' choice
September 16, 1999
The 19-inch Nokia 446PRO, the new member of Nokia's FlatAGTM technology family of CRT displays, is a multitasking professional display. The FD Trinitron® CRT provides an exceptional picture performance, with distortion and reflections cut down to a minimum. To the user, the screen appears absolutely flat.
Equipped with Nokia's easy-to-use user interface, the Nokia 446PRO is TCO'99 approved. TCO´99 is one of the strictest existing standards for display ergonomics, power consumption, emissions and ecology.
Image is everything
The Nokia 446PRO is based on the latest FlatAGTM technology, developed by Nokia with the aim of producing the sharpest, most accurate image possible while reducing eye strain and user fatigue. The latest FD Trinitron® CRT and new fast-performing video circuitry ensure that Nokia's FlatAGTM technology gives the best possible image performance, colour stability and user comfort available today.
"Our FlatAGTM technology is unique in the industry. It belands our state-of-the-art technology, R&D innovation and advanced manufacturing processes. Image is everything and the Nokia 446PRO is future proof," says Markku Halmeenmäki, General Manager, Product Marketing at Nokia Display Products.
The new technology provides images with a good focus and low reflection with minimum linearity errors. The small aperture grill mask and phosphorus stripe give a dot pitch of 0.24-0.25 mm, resulting in a very good character clarity at high resolutions. At the maximum flicker-free resolution of 1600 x 1200, the picture matches that of good quality 21-inch displays in information density.
In such demanding applications as desktop publishing, it is also important that the picture of the Nokia 446PRO has high whiteness/colour uniformity and is remarkably bright. The new display has one of the darkest screens in the market, thanks to NokiaCoatingTM with a light reflection of less than 1 per cent. The good contrast makes the images easier to read and the display more ergonomic to work with. Add to those notably rich vivid colours and you have a display with a performance sure to be appreciated by discerning professional users.
The user can work with ergonomic flicker-free images at very high resolutions for this screen size. At 1600 x 1200, the refresh rate of 85 Hz meets the new TCO'99 guideline.
Nokia interface
The Nokia 446PRO features the familiar Nokia interface concept, providing for easy access control of brightness and contrast, the most often adjusted settings, and on-screen-menu (OSM) control of other settings.
The OSM adjustment possibilities include vertical and horizontal convergence, Moiré cancellation, colour temperature, and password protection of picture settings. There are eight language options for the menu.
The Nokia 446PRO supports Windows 98® auto-installation standard for easy, trouble-free configuration, including a colour profile for better colour matching
TCO'99 approved
The Nokia 446PRO fully complies with the new TCO'99 guidelines on ergonomics, power consumption, electromagnetic emissions, and environmental impact. The power consumption of the Nokia 446PRO meets the new stricter requirements with a clear margin. As power consumption during use accounts for the largest environmental impact of a display, the low power consumption saves not only money but also the environment.
Compliance with the TCO'99 ecology requirements means e.g. that all the plastic components of the Nokia 446PRO are designed for maximal recyclability, that no harmful paints are used, nor cadmium or mercury and that no freons (CFC, HCFC) are used in packaging.
Nokia is paving the way to the mobile information society with its innovative products and solutions.
