Nokia Introduces Service Management, Customer Care and Billing Solutions for GPRS Networks
September 23, 1999
Nokia today introduces its Datacom Customer Care and Billing System (CCB) for GPRS mobile networks; a scaleable, integrated and full-featured business solution for operators.
The Nokia Datacom CCB for GPRS is a carrier-class billing system that integrates customer care, billing and customer self-care while managing the existing services by automating service provision and data collection. Developed with Solect's Internet Administration Framework (IAF) as the platform, Nokia Datacom CCB for GPRS manages and invoices a wide array of new revenue generating services.
The Nokia Datacom CCB for GPRS connects to the Charging Gateway of Nokia GPRS core network. Charging Gateway collects and consolidates the GPRS charging information records from the SGSN and GGSN nodes and delivers them to the Datacom CCB for rating and postprocessing.
The Nokia Datacom CCB can be integrated with mobile operators' existing billing systems to enable bundling of traditional mobile services together with new mobile data services. In addition, the WAP-based self care module enables mobile users to change their passwords, review transactions and bundle invoices using their mobile handsets.
"The Nokia GPRS solution is the most complete package in the market today," says Petri Pöyhönen, Head of GPRS Business Program, Nokia Networks. "Right from the outset, we saw billing as a major element of GPRS deployment. A standalone Charging Gateway is a key element of the Nokia GPRS core. We are now closing the loop by adding the next element in the chain: datacom aware billing and service management based on the IAF technology of Solect. Nokia is the first vendor to introduce a Datacom CCB for GPRS to facilitate and simplify billing of data services in wireless networks. With Nokia Datacom CCB for GPRS, operators can stay ahead in the race and provide sophisticated wireless data services."
The system includes service management, customer care and self-care, a rule-based rating engine and provisioning data collectors (PDCs). Service management features enable effective and secure management of bundled product offerings which include GPRS access, e-mail, Web-hosting, Internet/Intranet access and WAP-based content and other value-added services. The Nokia Datacom Customer Care and Billing System (CCB) for GPRS mobile networks will be introduced at Telecom 99, Geneva, Switzerland, during 10-17 October.
