Nokia Again Named One of Industry Week's 100 Best Managed Companies Second Successive Year On the Elite List
August 12, 1999
For the second year in a row, the editors of Industry Week magazine have named Nokia one of Industry Week's 100 Best Managed Companies worldwide.
Winning companies were evaluated for growth in profit-margin, sales-turnover, revenues, inventory-turnover, profits, profit margin, leverage, return on assets, return on equity, total revenues, earnings per share and net income. Industry Week editors were joined by a panel of 113 international experts, including business leaders, analysts and academicians.
Corporate citizenship also was an important factor in the judging. Winning companies were cited for work outside the boardroom, including contributions of money, time andmaterials for civic and humanitarian projects, such as Nokia's US$1 million donation to the International Red Cross for refugee relief in Kosovo earlier this year.
Olli Kallasvuo, Nokia chief financial officer and executive vice president for Nokia Americas, said Nokia is extremely pleased to gain this recognition from Industry Week once more. "Nokia's solid financial performance is the result of a highly skilled workforce led by a dedicated management team that has clear vision and strong resolve. Credit for this award goes to everybody at Nokia."
Nokia is paving the way to the mobile information society with its innovative products and solutions. Nokia is the leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed and IP networks including related services. It also supplies multimedia terminals and computer displays. In 1998, net sales totaled EUR 13.3 billion (USD 15.7 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on the New York (NOK), Helsinki, Stockholm, London, Frankfurt and Paris stock exchanges and employs more than 51 000 people.
