CIO Magazine has named Nokia as a recipient of the 1999 CIO-100 award, which recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest levels of operational and strategic excellence.

The 1999 CIO-100 award honors the top100 companies that have prepared for the new economy and are strategically leading the business community to the next millennium. CIO Editor-in-Chief Abbie Lundberg said companies that excel in the new economy in coming years must "know their customers, leverage the Internet, invest in people, innovate like crazy and completely reinvent themselves if necessary."

Winning companies first were nominated by a distinguished panel of academicians, consultants and analysts based on the companies' abilities to succeed beyond the year 2000. CIO writers and editors made the final selections.

Olli Kallasvuo, Nokia Chief Financial Officer and executive vice president - Nokia Americas, said all Nokia employees share in the award. "Nokia is blessed with strong management with a clear vision, but our preparedness for the next century is rooted in the performance of all our employees worldwide. Our culture embraces teamwork while placing a high value on the ideas and contributions of each person."

CIO magazine is a publication of International Data Group (IDG), which publishes more than 290 computer newspapers and magazines and 700 book titles in 75 countries.
