Nokia to rename its infrastructure business as Nokia Networks
August 31, 1999

- Meeting the future needs of customers for the Millennium and beyond

In order to reflect today's changing business and communications environment, Nokia Telecommunications, the infrastructure arm of Nokia, is to change its name to Nokia Networks, as of October 1, 1999.

The change of name indicates an industry shift towards the increasing importance of applications, service integration and IP networking. In line with this, combined with the diverse needs of Nokia's customers, Nokia Networks will create a new division called Customer Operations. This new division will be headed by Mikko Heikkonen, who previously headed the Network Systems division within Nokia Telecommunications.

Customer Operations will further strengthen Nokia's range of customer services and system integration capabilities for telecom, datacom and IP networks. It will also enable Nokia to move closer to the market, enhancing its Area organization worldwide.

"The rapid growth of the Internet, increasing mobility and digital convergence are moving the markets towards Global IP Mobility, as we head into the new Millennium," says Sari Baldauf, President, Nokia Networks.

"The change of name to Nokia Networks as well as the establishment of a dedicated Customer Operations division reflects our changing business scope and demonstrates our commitment to consistently renew our operational mode, in order to proactively meet the needs of our customers and market requirements."

Nokia Networks will consist of the following divisions: Customer Operations, Network Systems, Radio Access Systems, Broadband Systems and Professional Mobile Radio.

Nokia is paving the way to the mobile information society with its innovative products and solutions. Nokia is the leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed and IP networks including related services. It also supplies multimedia terminals and computer displays. In 1998, net sales totaled EUR 13.3 billion (USD 15.7 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on the New York (NOK), Helsinki, Stockholm, London, Frankfurt and Paris stock exchanges and employs more than 51 000 people.
