Nokia to supply SDH transmission equipment to Lietuvos Telekomas in Lithuania
June 22, 1999

Nokia and Lietuvos Telekomas have signed a frame agreement for the supply of SDH transmission equipment to Lietuvos Telekomas. Nokia will supply a Nokia Synfonet STM/16 transmission network, digital cross-connects, a Nokia NMS 100 network management system and related services.

"We are pleased to be able to build our backbone network with flexible Nokia Synfonet solutions," says Tapio Paarma, General Manager and President, Lietuvos Telekomas.

As fast implementation is essential, all equipment will be pre-integrated at the factory. This new service concept essentially reduces implementation and commissioning time.

"We are pleased to announce this significant agreement with Lietuvos Telekomas. The excellent capabilities of Nokia's transmission solutions and the flexibility of Nokia Synfonet are very valuable, when the network must be flexibly adapted to fast changing market conditions. The Nokia network management solution further improves flexibility," says Juhani Koivula, Area General Manager, Nokia Telecommunications.

AB Lietuvos Telekomas was privatised in 1998. The current owners are the State of Lithuania (40%), Sonera (30%) and Telia (30%). Lietuvos Telekomas operates the fixed telecommunications network in Lithuania.

Nokia is the world's leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed, and IP networks including related services. Nokia also supplies multimedia terminals and computer displays. In 1998, net sales totaled EUR 13.3 billion (USD 15.7 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on the New York (NOK), Helsinki, Stockholm, London, Frankfurt and Paris stock exchanges, has sales in over 130 countries and employs more than 47 000 people worldwide.
