Nokia and Ubiquity to deliver high value applications for next generation IP telephony based centrex
June 23, 1999

Agreement enables movement of CTI applications to broad horizontal markets

Nokia, a leading provider of end-to-end IP Telephony solutions, has entered into a formal agreement with Ubiquity Software Corporation to combine efforts in delivering high value applications for next generation IP Telephony based networks. The agreement is based on software licensing and cooperative development.

The combination of Ubiquity's suite of applications and enabling technologies together with Nokia's feature-rich IP Telephony call control platform will allow services such as IP-enabled voice messaging and advanced call control solutions. Most computer telephony integration (CTI) applications have failed to move from niche into the broader horizontal markets, primarily because of the complexity of integration and non-intuitive user interfaces. Ubiquity's unique approach to computer telephony allows those killer applications which are utilized daily by millions of users including browsers, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation programs and corporate databases, to be IP telephony enabled without cumbersome, new user interfaces.

T. Kent Elliott, vice president and general manager, Nokia IP Telephony, said "Combining Nokia's unique distributed architecture and extensive call control feature functionality with
third party applications and open standards such as Microsoft TAPI will enable next
generation operators to rapidly deploy new solutions to all types of customers." "This is a great example of the IP Telephony industry moving beyond toll bypass into higher value sustainable markets," Elliott said.

Simon Gibson, president and CEO, Ubiquity Software Corporation, said "Ubiquity's three years of delivering high-value software has enabled the company to find optimum ways to use IP telephony to enable business applications." "Working with Nokia, a global communications leader, will enable Ubiquity to advance the CTI industry to the next level," Gibson said.
