Nokia launches a range of High Speed Access products and solutions at Networld and Interop 99
May 10, 1999
Nokia will introduce a range of High Speed Access products and solutions at the Interop and Networld exhibition in Las Vegas, USA.
Nokia launched a remote DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) access solution that allows network service providers to address new markets and extend the reach of DSL services. With the MicroRAM-24 solution, DSL service providers can address the need to integrate broadband capacity into existing locations in the local loop or to central offices.
Nokia also announced that Advanced TeleCom Group, Inc. (ATG), a facilities-based Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC), has chosen the Nokia SpeedlinkTM System as the enabling platform for ATG's forthcoming DSL service offerings. Under the terms of the agreement, ATG will deploy the Nokia Speedlink Systems in central offices located in all of ATG's service areas, including those in California, Washington, and Oregon. ATG's DSL services will provide subscribers with dedicated access at multi-megabit rates, more than 50 times faster than 56Kbps analog modems, using standard copper telephone lines.
An integrated voice and data DSL application will be demonstrated by Nokia at the exhibition, in conjunction with Jetstream Communications. The technology collaboration aims to showcase the ability for service providers to offer small businesses simultaneous telephone and data services over last mile local loop networks.
Enhanced ATM quality of service (QoS) capabilities for the Nokia SpeedlinkTM and Eksos B20 Systems Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) will be unveiled. The new QoS features enable network operators to generate profitable business growth by offering differentiated DSL based services to businesses through prioritization of data, voice and video traffic across their networks.
To address growing concern over local loop quality, Nokia and Tektronix, Inc. will host a live demonstration, highlighting the capability to locate and resolve faults in copper local loops. By identifying and locating common problems encountered in the provisioning of existing outside plants for new digital services, service providers can efficiently deploy reliable broadband services.
