Nokia and PTK Centertel sign EUR 55 million expansion contract for GSM 1800 Idea network in Poland
May 12, 1999
Nokia and PTK Centertel, the GSM 1800 operator in Poland, have extended their long-term frame agreement for the supply of GSM equipment, in a deal worth approximately Euro 55 million.
Nokia will supply network infrastructure equipment to Centertel for their Idea GSM 1800 network, including Nokia mobile switching centres, base stations and base station controllers. In addition, a range of customer services will be supplied, covering implementation and technical support.
"Our network has been developing rapidly, thus requiring more infrastructure to build additional capacity and expand existing coverage" says Mr. Marek Józefiak, CEO, PTK Centertel. "We are very satisfied with the close mode of co-operation with Nokia we have developed during 7 years of working together in both NMT and GSM" adds Mr. Bertrand Le Guern, Technical Director, PTK Centertel.
"This further expansion will maintain the high level of service quality and coverage for Idea subscribers, as well as providing the operator with our expertise in customer service and support." says Wojciech Pytel, Area General Manager, Nokia Telecommunications Poland.
