Fast access to the Internet - with the complete Nokia Broadband IP Access solution
March 04, 1999
Connecting@Speed, with Nokia Broadband
Nokia today launched a complete solution aimed at revolutionising access to Internet Protocol (IP) services. The Nokia Broadband IP Access solution integrates Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) and IP technology, to provide operators with one of the most advanced end-to-end high-speed Internet access systems available.
The solution offers all the network elements to provide true end-to-end IP connectivity, including advanced network management and customer care and billing systems. The technology enables operators to provide high speed digital data services simultanueously with voice traffic over the fixed line copper network.
System components include the Nokia Eksos R700 Remote Access Node, Nokia Eksos M Network Terminals and Nokia Eksos B Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs). The solution also incorporates the Nokia Network Management System, the new Nokia IP Authenticator data server and Nokia's Datacom Customer Care and Billing system. The total solution includes system management and integration as well as customer services to help operators run their networks throughout the network lifecycle.
"Operators need to meet demands for capacity, driven by the growth of the Internet. The rapid increase in the volume of data traffic is leading to a need for high bandwidth networks; the Nokia Broadband IP Access solution offers the most scalable, integrated total fast Internet solution available today," says Kari Suneli, Senior Vice President, IP and Access Solutions, Nokia Telecommunications.
With the Nokia solution, operators can offer services ranging from simple Internet access for the mass market to advanced tailored services for individual users, such as remote working. This can be achieved without the need for major network modifications. As an end-to-end solution, operators have control over the complete range of network systems, from the initial service request to provision of the bill.
Nokia is also a leading supplier of narrowband access solutions, based on the V5.2 standard. Nokia has already supplied access solutions to over forty countries worldwide and provides operators with a smooth migration into broadband services.
Nokia is the world's leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile and fixed telecom networks including related customer services. Nokia also supplies solutions and products for fixed and wireless datacom, as well as multimedia terminals and computer monitors. In 1998, net sales totaled FIM 79.2 billion (USD 15.7 billion, EUR 13.3 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on five European Stock Exchanges and on the New York Stock Exchange (NOK.A), has sales in over 130 countries and employs more than 44,000 people worldwide.
