NOKIA 800XA - Top-Performing Flat Panel with Wide Viewing Angle
March 18, 1999

Nokia is among the leading brands in the fast growing professional user segment of the flat panel display market.

The new Nokia 800XA LCD display with a viewable diagonal size of 18.1 inches and a wide viewing angle is further proof of the quality, innovation and user-friendliness of the Nokia flat panel displays.

The Nokia 800XA combines the compactness of a flat panel display with the ergonomic Nokia design. New features designed with a view to demanding professional applications include integrated audio capabilities and two analog connectors enabling users to connect two PCs to the same monitor.

Professional picture performance
The picture performance of the Nokia 800XA meets professional demands on visual ergonomics. Thanks to the remarkably wide viewing angle - 170 degree conical - several users can comfortably view images or documents of joint interest from a wide variety of angles without changes in the colours or contrast.
The image quality of the Nokia 800XA is based on Super Fine TFT active matrix technology. The flicker free picture has a contrast ratio of 200:1. The image is clear and crisp at the highest resolutions. At the maximum resolution of 1280x1024 the refresh rate is 75 Hz. It is a major advantage of the flat screen that the image creation technique does no bend or curve any lines. The geometrically correct picture looks natural. The Nokia 800XA will also include an ICC display profile produced using color management technology from Eastman Kodak Company.

The luminance output of 200 candelas per square metre gives a remarkably bright picture. For comparison, the strictest current luminance standard, that of TCO'99, requires that the display luminance of a LCD is greater than 125 cd/m2. The colour capacity of 16.7 million colours translates into pictures with rich and true colours.

Innovative Features extend range of applications

The novel features of the Nokia 800XA include audio capabilities, with two integrated loudspeakers. For the professional user, this opens the door to a wider range of multimedia, Internet and other and interactive communication applications.

The other innovation of dual analog input for reception of information from two PCs will come into its own in banking and finance applications. When two PCs are simultaneously connected to the 800XA via two analog connectors, the user can give priority to either one of them and easily switch between them by using a button on the front panel of the display. Possible applications range from dealer rooms to anyone regularly working with information from two information networks, an increasingly common thing.

Nokia ergonomics and ease of use

The Nokia 800XA offers the familiar Nokia user interface featuring an on-screen menu with a full range of picture and sound adjustment possibilities. The display can be easily adapted to various user environments thanks to the VESA compatible mounting interface. Equipped with a detachable stand and standard accessory, the 800XA can be readily mounted on a wall, an option often used in banking and trading applications. The display can be tilted 5 degrees forwards and 20 degrees backwards for maximum comfort.

The Nokia 800XA fulfils the stringent TCO'95 standard on visual ergonomics, electromagnetic emissions, energy saving and environmental impact. The display also complies with all EU and US safety regulations and standards. The 800XA supports the VESA plug and play standard (DDC2B) and is, thanks to analog IF card future proof with respect to PC and display compatibility.

Protection and safety solutions

LCD panels, with their sensitive construction of liquid silicon crystals and transistors, need special care and protection. The 800XA comes with an innovative solution. The panel is shielded with a transparent plastic Protective Plexiglass which protects the panel from dust, moisture and grease and prevents damage to it.

Valuable and easily moved FPDs are a tempting object for theft. The Theft Prevention Mechanism of the Nokia 800XA solves the problem with an integrated mechanical securing device dispensing with separate adhesives, clips or brackets.
