Nokia at CeBIT '99

Nokia today annouced several new products and solutions at CeBIT '99 exhibition in Hannover, Germany.

Nokia launced a new dual band GSM 900/1800 mobile phone, the Nokia 3210 and a new carphone, the Nokia 6090. Nokia is also demonstrating the world's first media phone, the Nokia 7110, that is based on the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) in Mobile Media Mode (WWW:MMM). Nokia also launched several new advanced solutions for both fixed and mobile networks.

The Nokia 3210 is a dual band GSM 900/1800 mobile phone with a set of personalized features, including picture messaging, user changeable front and back covers, and predictive text input. Picture messaging is a totally new feature, allowing users to send short messages containing images. The product will be available in volume in the second quarter of 1999.

The Nokia 6090 is a new powerful car phone to comply with the needs of the highly demanding professional car phone users. With its 8W transceiver, the Nokia 6090 is designed to give the best possible signal and clear reception within the GSM network. The Nokia 6090 has full mobile data communication capabilities. The user interface and the technology of the Nokia 6090 resembles that of the Nokia 5110. The product will be available in the third quarter of 1999.

Nokia is also demonstrating the world's first media phone, the Nokia 7110, that is based on the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) in Mobile Media Mode (WWW:MMM). The Nokia 7110 dual band GSM 900/1800 media phone was introduced in February at the GSM World Congress in Cannes, France. The new product has been designed to enable easy access to Internet content from a mobile phone. The product will be available in volume in the second quarter of 1999. Nokia will also introduce similar products for the TDMA and GSM 1900 standards later this year.

The world leading mobile phone manufacturers, Nokia, Ericsson and Motorola introduced a new universal marketing initiative to simplify the introduction of mobile Internet. The WWW:MMM (Mobile Media Mode) concept will enable consumers and industry partners, such as content and service providers, operators and manufacturers immediately to recognize wireless services and products that are built to provide easy and direct access the Internet based information.

Nokia will also unveil a wide range of services and solutions offering fixed and mobile operators new innovative products to enhance and build on their service offerings. The new Nokia Dedicated IP Access solution comprises of a range of products to bring broadband access to the office. High speed intranet services, high speed business Internet access, VPN and remote working, are enabled by combining Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and IP routing technology. Nokia's Broadband IP Access solution, launched earlier in March will also be displayed. Both Dedicated IP Access and Broadband IP Access solutions incorporate the new Nokia Datacom Customer Care and Billing system, called Provideo.

Other product launches will include the Nokia Eksos B30 remote access node, the Nokia DX 220 Compact switch, and the new Nokia Synfonet Access Node which offers a cost-effective solution for applications such as SDH access and STM-1 transmission networks. Nokia Traffica, a unique network management solution for real-time traffic monitoring, will also be introduced for fixed networks.

For mobile networks, the Nokia Artus USSD Center will be launched - a platform offering faster interactive messaging services within GSM networks, as well as easy access to Internet-based services. Nokia will also introduce its Nokia Online Services at CeBIT 99 - bringing interactive services to network customers via the Internet.

For Professional Mobile Radio, a new member of the Nokia TETRA radio handset family will be introduced - the THR420 handportable radio for Public Safety and Security networks.
