Nokia launches new TETRA handportable - for reliable field communication
March 18, 1999

Nokia today announced the launch of a new member of its TETRA radio handset family - the stylish and powerful THR420 handportable radio for the Public Safety and Security networks.

The THR420 has a highly ergonomic, modern design with simple-to-use user interface to guarantee easy operation of the radio in demanding field environments. Like the whole Nokia digital TETRA terminal range, the THR420 supports all the advanced features of the TETRA standard, including encryption for enhanced security, in voice and data communications.

The new Nokia handportable, like others in the range, offers optimised solutions for differing communications needs of professional users such as those working in the emergency services and security organisations.

The exterior design of the THR420 comprises of a strong aluminium body, offering excellent resistance to harsh conditions in a light-weight casing. Three easy to reach programmable keys, give the user direct access to pre-defined operations with a single keystroke.

With a selection of accessories also available, the THR420 can offer a complete package for demanding field operation. Deliveries of the new model will start during late 1999.

The other handportable in the Nokia TETRA range is the compact THR600. It supports all TETRA system services like the other Nokia terminal models, offering optimum choice for mobile field organisations in Public Safety and Security networks as well as in the professional cellular services.

For in-vehicle use Nokia has two mobile radios in product range. The TMR400 has a large graphics display, surrounded by the most commonly used control keys, offering an easy-to-use interface to the extensive services offered by TETRA. The other model, TMR420 mobile radio has rotary switches for group selection and volume control and is suited for use in special vehicles such as motorcycles.
