March 18, 1999

Nokia has announced the launch of its Nokia DX 220 Compact at CeBit 99, in Hannover, Germany - enhancing its already successful fixed switching product offering.

The Nokia DX 220 Compact is a new addition to the Nokia fixed switching product family built on the world leading DX 200 platform. The Nokia DX 220 Compact provides switching services for network operators, where site space or capacity requirements are limited, combining reduced capital and operational costs with superb reliability.

The multipurpose functionality of the Nokia DX 220 Compact enables network operators to select the most suitable switch type for their purposes, catering for any combination of local, international, transit or Internet traffic.

"The introduction of DX 220 Compact is a further demonstration of Nokia's commitment to providing optimised solutions for fixed operators," says Aarne Sipilä, Vice President, Fixed Switching, Nokia Telecommunications. "The needs of operators are rapidly changing in today's telecommunications environment and the flexibility of the DX 220 Compact will enable them to meet the demands of a competitive market place."

Nokia's switching solutions and applications are built on the DX 200 switching platform, used in mobile and fixed applications alike. Nokia has delivered its DX 200 switching solutions to more than 140 operators in approximately 40 countries.
