March 18, 1999

Nokia 6090 is designed for good performance and comprehensive data connectivity

Nokia has today announced the Nokia 6090, a new powerful car phone to comply with the needs of the highly demanding professional car phone users. With its 8W transceiver, the Nokia 6090 is designed to give the best possible signal and clear reception within the GSM900 network. The Nokia 6090 has full mobile data communication capabilities, including RS232 serial port connectivity to a computer. The phone can be used as a modem and controlled via AT commands. The product will be available in the third quarter of 1999.

"The Nokia 6090 is an excellent choice for anyone who needs mobile communications on the road. The professionals in the transport and service industries are heavy users of mobile telephony. They require good performance and reliable reception in very demanding conditions. The Nokia 6090 is a perfect platform for building fleet management and other smart traffic solutions," said Kalevi Kaartinen, Vice President, Nokia Mobile Phones, Smart Traffic Products.

The user interface and the technology of the Nokia 6090 resembles that of the Nokia 5110, including the Nokia NaviKey for easy access to the functions of the phone. The Nokia 6090 can be conveniently installed into the DIN slot of the car. The phone supports two SIM card readers: one ISO SIM at the radio unit and another plug-in SIM card in the handset. The SIM card in the handset can be quickly and conveniently changed when the driver of the vehicle changes.
