Nokia delivers first set-top boxes for Swedish digital terrestrial services
March 31, 1999

With the official start of Sweden's digital terrestrial network, Nokia launches its Mediamaster 9820T for Swedish terrestrial services.

The Nokia Mediamaster will be the first receiver to give Swedish users easy access to digital terrestrial multi-channel TV. The receiver is currently being delivered and will be available at retailers shops starting from April 1.

Mikael Färjsjö, Director of Sales and Marketing at Nokia Multimedia Terminals Sweden, commented: "We are convinced that digital television with its value-added services and endless possibilities will transform the way we use television today. The launch of digital terrestrial TV with related interactive services in Sweden is an important milestone, and we are proud to be the first to supply digital set-top boxes to the Swedish market."

The Nokia Mediamaster 9820T is based on the software platform OpenTV EN, fully DVB MPEG-2 compliant and developed in accordance with the Nordig specification for digital set-top boxes. The built-in modem makes it ready for pay-per-view and other interactive services. It receives both 2K and 8K COFDM signals.

About Sweden's digital terrestrial network
The decision to launch the network was taken by the Swedish Government in 1997. Behind digital terrestrial TV in Sweden are national network operator Teracom and content administrator Senda. The network covers half of the Swedish population, and can reach the equivalent of today's analogue network coverage within four years. Twelve programme providers have the right to broadcast today. Official launch date is April 1, 1999.
