Globe Telecom continues with Nokia for network expansion in the Philippines

Globe Telecom and Nokia have signed a contract for the sixth phase expansion of Globe Telecom's GSM-based Handyphone service, valued at approximately USD 60 million.

Nokia will provide equipment to enhance Globe's GSM 900 services and network quality in the Metro Manila area. Work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Once completed, this upgrade will see network capacity increased to support over 300,000 customers. Under the agreement, Nokia will supply base station controllers, base stations, mobile switching centres, the Nokia Network Management System and transmission systems. A full range of customer services, from site acquisition to network integration and optimization will also be provided.

Globe Telecom, is the Philippine telecoms venture of Ayala Corporation and Singapore Telecom International. It is a full-service telecommunications company offering cellular mobile, fixed wire services for domestic and international telephony, VSAT (Very Small Aperture terminals), International Private Leased (IPL) lines, datacommunications like Data Frame Relay and Value Added Network (VANS) services like G-Net Internet Access.
