The new Nokia Service Routing Register - an enhanced solution for mobile number portability
February 25, 1999

Nokia has announced the launch of a new solution to simplify Mobile Number Portability (MNP) for GSM operators. The DX 200 "i-series" Nokia Service Routing Register (SRRi) was introduced at the Cannes GSM World Congress.
The Nokia SRRi uses a number mapping scheme to give GSM subscribers the freedom to change operators, while maintaining the same mobile number. This high capacity switching product also incorporates enhanced network-optimising features.
"The Nokia SRRi is the latest addition to the i-series product family. As well as providing Mobile Number Portability for voice traffic, the Nokia SRRi can also route short messages and other non-voice related traffic to subscribers who have change networks, but not their mobile number," says Sauli Salo, Senior Vice President, Mobile Switching, Nokia Telecommunications. "An added advantage is that new DX 200 "i-series" products work seamlessly with existing DX 200 mobile switching equipment."

The DX 200 "i-series" products are part of the Nokia High Capacity GSM system. The DX 200 "i-series" products can bring significant savings for network operators, reducing required site size by up to 60 per cent and offering up to a 70 per cent power saving thanks to a new compact design.
