Nokia to supply Synfonet SDH/WDM solutions to Tele2 Europe for Europe-wide backbone network

Nokia and Tele2 Europe have signed a major frame agreement for the supply of transmission equipment and related services. Tele2 Europe will build a state-of-the-art backbone transmission network across 12 countries in Europe based on Nokia transmission solutions.
Nokia will also supply other transmission equipment, network management and technical support. Deliveries will cover orders in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands and the UK.

In November 1998, Nokia and Tele2 Europe signed a purchase agreement for the supply of DX 200 fixed switching equipment, to enable the provision of enhanced fixed ISDN-based network services throughout serveral countries in Europe.
Based on a service concept developed by Tele2 in Scandinavia, Tele2 Europe's aim is to provide telecom services including telephony, fax, data and Internet in a number of European countries. Tele2 Europe is a wholly owned subsidiary within Société Européenne de Communication (SEC, based in Luxembourg) and has operations in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland, as well as licenses in Italy, Austria, France, UK and Ireland. SEC has been listed on the Stockholm Boersinformation since October 1998 and is also listed on NASDAQ, New York and in Luxembourg.
Nokia has developed a comprehensive SDH/WDM solution, the Nokia Synfonet family, for access and transport networks, incorporated under a full network management system. Nokia's SDH technology has been supplied to over 130 customers in more than 30 countries.
