Nokia launches new Nokia IP650 security solution for carrier-class performance
January 26, 1999
Nokia has announced the launch of its Nokia IP650 integrated security solution - expanding its already successful Internet security product family.
The Nokia IP650 is a new high-end addition to the Nokia family of IP (Internet Protocol) network security products, developed to provide unprecedented levels of resilience making it ideal for Internet Service Providers and customers who insist on high performance and maximum availability.
The Nokia family of integrated security solutions are specifically designed as a networking platform capable of running a full implementation of Check Point Firewall-1 software. While the Firewall software protects the network, routing is used to ensure network connectivity and provide resilience features. Nokia is now one of the largest suppliers of Check Point Firewall-1 software, which is integrated with Nokia's security solutions.
"Nokia's integrated concepts meet the demands of the growing market which is calling for these network security solutions. The Nokia IP650 builds on those existing capabilities by increasing port density, improving performance and providing higher resilience," says, Brian NeSmith, Vice President, Nokia IP Routing Group.
Like existing Nokia Internet Security Products, the Nokia IP650 has significant benefits to offer the service provider. All hardware and software is delivered pre-installed from Nokia, reducing the time and expertise needed to complete installation.
Nokia is the world's leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile and fixed telecom networks including related customer services. Nokia also supplies solutions and products for fixed and wireless datacom, as well as multimedia terminals and computer monitors. In 1997, net sales totaled FIM 52.6 billion (USD 9.8 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on five European Stock Exchanges and on the New York Stock Exchange (NOK.A), has sales in 130 countries and employs more than 42,000 people world-wide.
Notes to Editors:
Requiring 30% less rack space and offering higher port density than the IP400 Series, the IP650 almost doubles the number of network connections that can be accommodated by a standard 6 foot equipment rack. The IP650 can support up to 20 high speed Ethernet interfaces or a combination of LAN and WAN interfaces that include T1, X.21, V.35 and HSSI.
