Nokia signs millenium sponsorship deal with CNN International
December 21, 1998
Nokia is to sponsor 'Voices of the Millennium', a year-long series of new millennium programme features on CNN International, in its first-ever sponsorship campaign with the world's news leader.
The campaign, which includes sponsorship credits and 30-second advertising spots, launches on 1 January 1999 on CNN International's Europe/MiddleEast/Africa and Asia Pacific feeds, reaching a total of more than 125 million households across the regions.
'Voices of the Millennium' will be a collection of specially produced programme 'shorts' featuring comment and reflection on events and issues affecting mankind, from celebrities, newsmakers and everyday people around the world. Airing everyday throughout the year, 'Voices of the Millennium' will be the first of CNN International's millennium programming to launch in 1999.
Martin Wright, vice president global client solutions, Turner Marketing Solutions Group, said, "Nokia's sponsorship of 'Voices of the Millennium' evolved through a close working relationship with the client and Nokia's media agency from which we were able to develop a clear understanding of both the brand, its tone of voice and its relationship with consumers. This programming partnership underlines the commitment to each other's businesses as we move into the new millennium and is a further example of how CNN International is working with advertisers and agencies to develop strategic marketing platforms".
Heikki Norta, General Manager, Marketing Services, Nokia Mobile Phones, Europe and Africa, said, "Nokia is pleased to work with CNN in bringing the visions of the next millennium to the viewers of the channel. In mobile communications, the emphasis will soon shift from ears to eyes and CNN is one of the world's leading companies in field of visual communications. We feel that through this sponsorship scheme our companies can learn and benefit a lot from each other."
