November 02, 1998
The Nokia 650 sets a new benchmark for NMT 450 technology
Nokia has today announced a new product for the NMT 450 networks. The Nokia 650 represents a new generation of high-end NMT phones. The product incorporates a lot of the features previously showcased in the famous Nokia 6100 series. As a special additional feature and first in the market, the Nokia 650 has a built-in FM radio. The Nokia 650 will be available in volume in the first quarter of 1999.
The operation times of the Nokia 650 are impressive for an analog mobile phone. With the Extended Li-ion Battery included in the sales package, the stand by time is up to 120 hours and the talk time is up to 2 hours 30 minutes. The Nokia 650 weighs just 190 grams with the Extended Battery. With the optional Slim Li-ion Battery, the weight of the Nokia 650 is only 170 grams, thus making it the smallest and the lightest NMT 450 mobile phone in the market. The battery options also include the Standard Battery and the Vibrating Battery. The batteries can be shared with the Nokia 5100 and the Nokia 6100 series mobile phones.
"The Nokia 650 brings many advanced features of modern mobile telephony to the fingertips of NMT 450 customers. We believe that the Nokia 650 will be particularly appealing to the business user, who has extensive requirements for a mobile phone. The users of the Nokia 650 can also take full advantage of the NMT 450 Plus services with operators who offer them," said Anssi Vanjoki, Senior Vice President, Nokia Mobile Phones, Europe and Africa.
The Nokia 650 supports 25 languages and has 35 ringing tones. The features also include the caller groups and profiles functions, a calendar, calculator and four games. The headset is included in the sales package for listening to the radio as well as for handsfree operation, and it acts as the FM radio antenna. Most accessories are compatible with the Nokia 5100 and 6100 series mobile phones. The optional 7W booster further extends the NMT 450 radio coverage.
