Full production to resume next week at Nokia's Haukipudas fixed access systems factory in Finland
November 19, 1998

Full production is to resume early next week at at Nokia's Haukipudas production facility in Finland. A fire which broke out in the early hours of this morning was brought under control and has now been completely extinguished, thanks to the prompt actions of the local fire brigades.

The Haukipudas factory produces transmission equipment for fixed line networks. Following an initial evaluation, damage was caused mainly to the roof area of office premises. The production lines and material storage and despatch areas were not affected by the fire. No-one was injured in the incident.

After this first assesment the IT control centre appears to have suffered less damage than originally estimated, therefore production is already able to begin on Monday. All production lines will gradually be taken into use, being fully operational by early next week.

Many of the personnel will be able to return to work tomorrow, with office staff operating from temporary premises and Nokia's facilities in nearby Oulu, Finland, while repairs are carried out. Around 700 people are employed at the factory.

The cost of repairs and the production delay has been estimated at some tens of millions of FIM at most. The premises and production lines are adequately insured. In addition the factory is insured against production interruption.
