Nokia to supply equipment for TETRA field trials in Budapest, Hungary
November 24, 1998
The Ministry of the Interior together with emergency organizations in Hungary have planned TETRA field trials in Budapest to establish the suitability of TETRA for secure, shared radio communication between various emergency organizations including the police, fire brigades and the border guard in Hungary. The trials will also take place for application within ambulance services.
According to the MoU Nokia will supply the complete TETRA infrastructure including digital exchanges, base stations, network management centre and mobile and hand portable radio terminals. The system will be implemented at the end of this year and trials will begin in January 1999.
Antenna Hungaria has been assigned by the Ministry of the Interior to act as Service Provider for the trial. Various technology suppliers have also been invited to take part in the trial.
"Nokia sees this TETRA field trial to be an important step for the application of TETRA for emergency services in Hungary. It also indicates the organisations' commitment to develop the platform for nationwide emergency TETRA network and services. " says Kari Lahtinen, Managing Director, Nokia Telecommunications Kft, Hungary.
TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) is the only open digital trunked radio standard defined by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to meet the needs of the most demanding professional mobile radio users.
