Normal production resumed at Nokia's Haukipudas fixed access systems factory in Finland
November 25, 1998
Normal production is now underway at Nokia's Haukipudas production facility in Finland, after a fire broke out at the site last week. All production lines and shift patterns have returned to normal operation.
The Haukipudas factory produces transmission equipment for fixed line networks. The fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday morning; starting after an electrical fault in the canteen area. Damage was mostly caused to the office premises, however the production area was not harmed and it is thanks to that, normal operations were able to be resumed so rapidly.
"All our personnel and co-operation partners worked very hard over the weekend, in order for production to start again. It is thanks to their huge efforts production was able to start on Monday, as estimated last week," says Hemmi Piirainen, Haukipudas Site Manager. "There may be a few days delay for deliveries to customers, due to the interruption in production. It is our target to return to normal delivery schedules in two weeks."
Substantial damage was caused to the building and repairs are currently underway, the costs of which are being met by insurance. Office staff are operating from temporary premises and Nokia's facilities in nearby Oulu, Finland, while the repairs are carried out. Around 700 people are employed at the factory.
