Nokia to deliver fixed switching equipment to Tele2 Europe
November 30, 1998
Nokia and Luxembourg-based operator Tele2 Europe have signed a purchase agreement for the supply of DX 200 fixed switching equipment. Tele2 Europe will be implementing the Nokia DX 200 switching platform to enhance its Europe-wide network.
The Nokia DX 200 platforms will be used to provide enhanced fixed ISDN-based network services, including improved long-distance call capabilities and Internet services. The agreement covers orders in Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, UK and Austria.
"We are satisfied with the capabilities of Nokia's DX 200 platform. This switching system will give us the capabilities to offer an enhanced range of services for our customers. The features and flexibility it offers are ideal for us," says Magnus Mandersson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tele2 Europe.
"We are very pleased to have signed this significant deal with Tele2 Europe. Deregulation in the European market is providing new opportunities for operators such as Tele2 and the versatility of the Nokia DX 200 platform provides an ideal solution for these growing networks," comments Pekka Vartiainen, Senior Vice President, Nokia Telecommunications, Europe and Africa.
Based on a service concept developed by Tele2 in Scandinavia, Tele2 Europe's aim is to provide telecom services including telephony, fax, data and Internet in a number of European countries. Tele2 Europe is a wholly owned subsidiary within Societe Europeenne de Communications (SEC, based in Luxembourg) and has operational subsidiaries in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland, as well as licenses in Italy, Austria, France and the UK. SEC has been listed on the Stockholm Boersinformation since last October and is also now listed on NASDAQ, New York.
Nokia Telecommunications develops and manufactures infrastructure equipment and systems for fixed and mobile networks. Nokia's switching solutions and applications are built on the DX 200 switching platform, used in mobile and fixed applications alike. Nokia has delivered its DX 200 switching solutions to around 120 operators in over 30 countries.
Nokia is the world's leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile and fixed telecom networks including related customer services. Nokia also supplies solutions and products for fixed and wireless datacom, as well as multimedia terminals and computer monitors. In 1997, net sales totaled FIM 52.6 billion (USD 9.8 billion).
