Nokia supplies Netstream, Brazil, with Synfonet SDH equipment for major access networks

Nokia and Netstream Telecom Ltda, Brazil have signed a three-year frame agreement for the supply of complete SDH Transport and Access Networks to the eight largest cities in Brazil. Deliveries will start in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro immediately.
Nokia will supply equipment from the Synfonet® SDH product family from STM-1 to STM-16 capacities, multiplexing equipment for data and voice services and the Nokia NMS Network Management System. Nokia will also provide customer services covering network implementation, operations, maintenance support and training services to Netstream.

Netstream was founded in 1998 to provide broadband local telecommunications services to business and government customers. Netstream will offer local voice and data services in Brazil's eight largest markets. Netstream's goal is to be the first and leading national facilities-based provider of competitive local telecommunications services. Netstream's targeted customer base is primarily medium and select large business and government customers in Brazil's eight largest markets. The Company will initiate service in Brazil's two largest cities, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, in 1998, and has targeted Belo Horizonte, Campinas, Curitiba, Brasília, Salvador and Porto Alegre as its next markets.
Nokia has developed a comprehensive SDH solution, The Nokia Synfonet, for effective access and transport networks incorporated under a full network management system. The Nokia Synfonet solution uses WDM-technology which enables the sending of multiple channels in one single fibre optic cable. The Nokia Synfonet solution enables the operator to flexibly build their network for future data and broadband solutions. Nokia's SDH technology has been supplied to close to 100 customers in over 20 countries.
