Nokia implements first TETRA mobile radio network in Austria
October 07, 1998
Nokia and Austrian operator Well.COM have agreed for the delivery of a complete TETRA professional mobile radio network, for public safety and security organizations. Deliveries will begin during next year.
Nokia will deliver and implement a complete TETRA network including switching, base stations, dispatching equipment and a network management system. Nokia will also supply TETRA handportable terminals and a range of customer services covering network planning, training and technical support.
The network will be used throughout the state of Burgenland by fire brigades, the Red Cross, and municipal service organizations. Potential subscribers like border guards, public power and water utilities as well as private transportation companies are investigating these new operator service offerings.
"Nokia is delighted to supply this network to Well.COM which will improve the service level of public safety and security services in Burgenland. This demonstrates the wide range of services for which TETRA can be used, in particular for securing vital mobile radio communications for all emergency organisations", says Heinz Brasic, Managing Director, Nokia Austria GmbH.
Well.COM Datahighway Burgenland GmbH is a fixed operator offering services to various sized companies in Burgenland and to local and municipal government. Well.COM's ownership is shared between the power utility Bewag, gas utility Begas, and Wibag, a local venture agency.
