Nokia launches new range of services and network management solutions
October 26, 1998

For the Nokia High Capacity GSM system

Nokia today introduces a set of new services and tools available as part of the Nokia High Capacity GSM System. Launched at the Expo Comm exhibition in Beijing, China, the range of products and services will reduce costs for operators and increase efficiency in GSM networks.

"Nokia has years of experience in upgrading and replacing equipment in live networks to accommodate high-capacity network solutions. All these tools and services present a complete planning and network management solution that contributes to fast network implementation and optimum operational efficiency," says Pekka Oranen, Senior Vice President, Customer Services, Nokia Telecommunications. "In dense GSM networks, it is essential to define where and when new added capacity is needed. Network planning is of the utmost importance as the new microcellular network needs to be integrated into the existing macro layer and switching network."

Nokia's new services and network management solutions comprise of:

  • Capacity Evolution Path and Strategy Service recommends a cost-efficient growth path that is in line with the operator's long-term business strategy.
  • Traffic and Hot Spot Analysis for Network Expansions supports the operator in identifying the most urgent current capacity needs in the network.
  • Network Optimisation Service integrates the new microcellular network into the existing macrocellular and switching network, resulting in increased efficiency.
  • Nokia MetroSite Manager Tool further reduces the amount of time needed for commissioning Nokia MetroSite base stations.
  • Nokia Configuration Data Warehouse enables a seamless flow of configuration and operational data. In conjunction with the Nokia Network Data Warehouse long-range planning and forecasting tool, it is possible to identify when and where more capacity is needed.
  • Nokia MetroSite Autoconfiguration simplifies and automates Nokia MetroSite commissioning, testing and integration, reducing commissioning time.
  • Nokia Totem Portable Planning Tool offers possibilities for site acquisition planning and is well suited for dense urban areas.

In order to remain competitive in today's markets, operators are looking for ways to focus their efforts on the marketing of their network services, rather than building the network. Nokia offers a comprehensive range of integrated services to get the network up and running quickly. These include network planning, site acquisition support and construction works, as well as implementation, installation, commissioning and integration.

Nokia will also offer continuous Network Operations Support Services for efficiently operating and maintaining the network as well as a wide range of new training courses. Network monitoring tools enable operators to focus on the issues and network problems most affecting the service quality perceived by subscribers.

Nokia offers total GSM systems, with everything from digital mobile phones to transmission and switching as well as extensive services for building, efficiently operating and developing these networks. Having supplied GSM technology to 74 operators in 37 countries, Nokia ranks as the world's largest supplier of GSM 1800 networks and one of the two largest in GSM 900. The world's first GSM call was made through a Nokia network in 1991.
