Nokia supplies Synfonet equipment for mobile transmission network in Liaoning Province, China

China Unicom Liaoning Branch has selected Nokia to supply Synfonet® SDH equipment for the expansion of its GSM transmission and trunk transmission network. The agreement is Nokia's single largest SDH deal in China. Deliveries will start immediately.



Liaoning Unicom will use the Nokia Synfonet SDH solution including STM-1 and the Nokia Synfonet Access Node (SAN). Nokia's NMS/10 network management system will be supplied as well as other Nokia access solutions. Customer services will also be provided.

Nokia is the sole supplier for the Liaoning province GSM transmission network, covering 12 cities in North-Eastern China. Liaoning Unicom plans to have the network expansion operational before the end of 1998, providing a total capacity for around 225,000 subscribers.

"This project is the biggest SDH contract so far, for Nokia in China. We will fully support Unicom in this project, in helping them to meet their growing capacity requirements," says Folke Ahlbäck, Senior Vice President, Nokia China.
