Nokia and LMT sign frame agreement for GSM expansion in Latvia

Nokia and the leading Latvian operator LMT have signed a three-year frame agreement for the expansion of the existing LMT GSM network. Nokia is LMT's sole supplier and deliveries will begin next year.


Nokia will supply its high capacity mobile switching centres, base station controllers, base stations as well as extensive customer services for implementation, operation and optimisation of the GSM 900 network.

"This co-operation strengthens the partnership between Nokia and LMT. Nokia has supplied our NMT network infrastructure since 1992 and GSM equipment since 1995," says Juris Binde, General Manager, LMT. "This agreement ensures the best services in Latvia for our growing customer base"

The Latvian Mobile Telephone Company (LMT) was established in 1992 as an NMT network operator. The LMT GSM 900 network was launched in 1995 and now has almost 100 000 subscribers. The company's main shareholders are Sonera Ltd.,Telia International, the Latvian Radio and Television Centre, the State Stock Company VEF and Lattelecom.
Nokia offers total GSM systems, with everything from digital mobile phones to transmission and switching. Having supplied GSM technology to 74 operators in 37 countries, Nokia ranks as the world's largest supplier of GSM 1800 networks and one of the two largest in GSM 900.
