September 23, 1998
New Nokia 5120 and Nokia 5160 digital phones features the industry's first NaviKey for easy use and user-changeable Xpress-On color covers
ORLANDO, Florida - Nokia today debuted two new TDMA additions to its 5100 series of digital wireless phones -- the Nokia 5120 (800 MHz single band/dual mode) and the Nokia 5160 (800/1900 MHz dual band/tri-mode). The affordable, easy-to-use TDMA digital handsets are targeted specifically for first time users.
The Nokia 5100 series further demonstrates Nokia's commitment to individuality and ease-of-use, featuring Nokia's innovative and highly intuitive Nokia NaviKey concept- a new feature that lets phone owners use a single button (the NaviTMKey) to easily access all the powerful functions of the phone.
Additionally, the Nokia 5100 phones feature the uniquely fashionable Xpress-On color covers, which allow users to quickly snap on and off different colored faceplates in a matter of seconds and without any tools. This is the first digital phone that allows people a true choice of color - and the ability to change full colored covers at any time. Additional covers can be purchased separately from a selection of five vibrant colors, including Tango Orange, Antigua Red, Gecko Green, Bermuda Blue and Dolphin Silver.
Nokia 5120 and 5160 features include:
· Exceptional performance times - from 8 days to 2 weeks standby or 3 to 5 hours talk time
· Nokia NaviKey is an easy-to-learn, one-button navigation for the phone for easy one-handed use
· Phone directory that stores 100 names and numbers
· Text messaging and Caller ID
· Clock, alarm clock and three entertaining games
· 30 musical ringing tones, including popular song melodies like Mexican Hat Dance, Jolly Good Fellow, Take Me Out to the Ballgame, The Entertainer and Jingle Bells
· Supported by a full line of Nokia Original Accessories for the home, office and automobile including new Xpress-onTM covers
More than just a fashionable phone, the new Nokia 5100 phones also pack features that people want into its sleek styling. The new phone features an alarm clock, three standard electronic games and a battery offering more than a week of stand-by time without needing a charge. Additional phone enhancements allow for "personalization" features including a selection of 30 ringing tones with melody lines from popular songs, a directory that stores 100 names and numbers and four language options (English, French, Portugese and Spanish).
"Loaded with easy-to-use features, the Nokia 5120 and Nokia 5160 will appeal especially to people who seek both functionality and fashion in their phone. Our customer research shows that people want phones that are easier to use and we have incorporated that desire into the Nokia 5100 series," said Rich Geruson, Senior Vice President, USA Sales & Marketing, Nokia Mobile Phones.
Small and lightweight, the new Nokia 5100 phones offer impressive performance and feature a large, high-resolution, illuminated screen, which allows for large easy-to-read letters. Batteries available include an extended or vibrating nickel-metal-hydride battery and an extended or ultra-extended lithium-ion battery. The Nokia 5100 series has a full range of Nokia Original Accessories available for home, office and automobile, including the Nokia LPS-1 Loopset (hearing aid adapter), a headset, belt clip and colored covers.
