PCS'98: Nokia debuts stylish new wearable cellular phone
September 23, 1998

- Small and lightweight, the new Nokia 282 analog cellular phone comes in
four fashionable colors and phone directory stores up to 75 names and numbers

Nokia today introduced a new analog (AMPS and NAMPS) addition to its award-winning line of wireless phones, the Nokia 282. Featuring a folding design that incorporates distinctive Nokia curves and color choices, the wearable product embodies standard Nokia elements -- large display, full-sized key pad and easy-to-use functions. The Nokia 282 is targeted to new cellular phone users with an eye for fashion and useful features and will begin shipping in volume in January 1999.

The Nokia 282 illustrates Nokia's continued commitment to the analog cellular market. With extensive geographic coverage and an installed base of more than 47 million subscribers in the United States, analog continues to be a large segment of the wireless market.

The Nokia 282 is reflective of Nokia's classic functionality and design that combines ergonomics and aesthetics to create a feature-packed, easy-to-use handset with a beautiful shape, color and contour. Special attention was paid to the industrial design of the Nokia 282. The classic Nokia large, easy-to-read LCD display is incorporated into the top half of the folded phone, a full sized keypad rests in the lower half and the phone itself is curved and weighted for easy one handed use. Personalization features such as color, ringing tones and alert settings designed to fit individual lifestyles and preferences.

Nokia 282 features include:
· Up to 100 minutes talk time or up to 24 hours standby
· Phone directory stores up to 75 names and numbers
· Vibrating alert
· Caller ID (where carrier supported) and Call Logs (last 15 dialed, received and missed calls)
· 12 ringing tunes including VIP caller settings (where carrier supported)
· 4 fashionable colors including Brushed Pewter, Ruby Red, Velvet Indigo and Satin Silver
· Supported by a full line of Nokia Original Accessories

"The basis for the development of all Nokia's wireless phones is to speak to the consumers' needs," said Rich Geruson, senior vice president, USA sales & marketing. "And with any Nokia phone, there are always three common elements -- usability, reliability and design -- and the Nokia 282 is no exception. We have incorporated these elements into our new 'wearable' phone in response to demand created by those consumers already familiar with our friendly features."

More than just a stylish phone, the new Nokia 282 also packs features beyond that of standard analog phones into its sleek design. The new 4.4 ounce phone features a vibrating alert to discretely let you know when someone is calling and VIP ringing tunes so that you can assign a special ringing tune to any number, allowing you to easily recognize a VIP caller. The Nokia 282 also has directory that stores 75 names and numbers so contacts are at your fingertips. Additional phone enhancements allow for "personalization" features including a Profiles Key offering 6 pre-set ring and volume options to provide consumers the ability to quickly and easily change alert settings to suit their surroundings. The phone is supported by a full line of Nokia Original Accessories for the home, office and automobile including headset and belt holster options.

The Nokia 282, in its standard configuration (with battery) weighs 4.4 ounces and provides all-day long performance with 100 minutes of talk time and 24 hours of standby time.
