Nokia and Enviset expand co-operation for electronics manufacturing in Finland

Enviset and Nokia have today signed an agreement for further production co-operation in Äänekoski, Central Finland. According to the agreement, production of mobile radios for Nokia Telecommunications' Professional Mobile Radio unit and production of printed circuit boards in Äänekoski for the Switching Platforms unit will be devolved to Enviset.
This agreement significantly improves the possibilities and potential for further development of electronics manufacturing in Central Finland. Nokia and Enviset have enjoyed co-operation for many years. The combined production capacity of the two companies creates a larger and competitive electronics manufacturing unit in Äänekoski. There will be approximately140 employees transferring from Nokia to Enviset, with no changes in their contracts of employment.
Nokia Telecommunications will continue to have almost 400 employees in Äänekoski working for its Professional Mobile Radio and Switching Platforms units.
Professional Mobile Radio develops and manufacturers digital and analogue trunked mobile radio networks. Nokia is the leading supplier of digital TETRA systems. Nokia has delivered its analogue MPT 1327 based Actionet system to more than 130 customers in more than 40 countries.
Switching Platforms develops and manufactures DX 200 switching products for cellular and fixed networks.
Enviset is a subsidiary of Essex Holding AB, headquartered in Sundsvall, Sweden. Essex, which was founded in 1989, is one of the leading contract manufacturers of electronics in the Nordic regions. Essex is focussed on industrial customers within the medical, telecom and engineering sectors. In April 1998, Essex acquired 100 % of Enviset in Äänekoski, Finland. The group expects to achieve SEK 1,1 billion in turnover in 1998 and it currently has about 740 employees.
