Nokia´s new 17" display has the footprint of a standard 14"
September 04, 1998
Featuring 100-degree, short-neck CRT technology, the 17-inch Nokia 447XS strengthens the award-winning product family of Nokia displays. The compact design of the Nokia 447XS offers approx. a 10% reduction in depth, giving the monitor the same footprint as a standard 14-inch display. The professionally elegant design focuses on user ergonomics.
Nokia is leading the trend toward display size reduction without sacrificing ergonomics and performance. Except the smaller footprint the new Nokia 447XS and the19-inch 446XS are also conspicuously lower than standard displays of the same size. The key to the design approach, based on the latest ergonomics research, is to lower the display screen toward desktop level. The lower down the display screen, the less straining is PC work on the neck and eyes.
The reduced-depth Nokia 447XS offers uncompromising quality and performance including 1024 x 768 maximum resolution at 100 Hz refresh rate and 80 Hz for resolution 1280 x 1024. The high resolutions of the Nokia 447XS and 446XS ensure the high information density of the display screens, enabling the user to work fast and flexibly in multi-application environments. The high refresh rates ensure that the picture is flicker free at all resolutions. The Nokia 447XS will include an ICC display profile produced using color management technology from Eastman Kodak Company.
With a resolution of 1280 x 1024 at 90 Hz, the Nokia 446XS in effect has the resolution of a 20-inch display in the frame of a 17-inch display. It provides a cost-effective solution to making the move from standard Windows applications up to the more sophisticated tasks of desktop publication and entry-level CAD, imaging and simulation.
The Nokia 447XS and 446XS have the familiar Nokia user interface praised for its ease of use. The solution includes easily accessible but not protrusive controls. There are separate controls for brightness and contrast, the two most frequently adjusted settings. All other adjustments are made by means of the NaviTMKey control, operated with the help of the On-Screen-Menu. The displays have TCO95 approval, covering user ergonomics, power consumption and environmental impact of products and production.
